What is nonbio?

Biological powders contain enzymes which breakdown proteins at low temperatures - great for stain removal. But some peoples skin is sensitive to the enzymes and will break out in a rash on contact.

Your wife is understandably being protective of your baby's delicate skin. However if the clothes are rinsed very well there should be no trace of the enzymes in the fabric so there would be no issue, but modern washing machines have reduced the amount of rinsing traditionally done to be more water efficent. You probably need to select extra rinse (maybe classed as sensitive). Failing that just run the cycle but dont put fabric conditoner in yet, then once finished put it on a final rinse (special treatments on some machines) with the conditioner now. The other reason that clothes aren't rinsed properly is due to the fact most people over load the machine - it should only be visibly three quarters full and not packed. You will also get a better wash result for putting in less.

Difference between bio & nonbio washing powder

Both non bio and bio powder have the bleaching agent in them unless they state specifically for coloureds - Dreft has no bleach in it but is biological. The bleaching agent is more active at hotter temperatures whilst enzymes in biological powder is more active in warm water but are killed off in too hot water. When biological powder was brought out is was stated as all wash temp powder as it washes at cool temp using the enzyme action and hot temp using more a bleaching action. Coloureds are washed cool so less bleached whites washed hot so benefit from more bleaching.

Cold fill only machines benefit from the "bio action" of the biological powder as they gradually heat up the water so get the benefit of the enzymes and if on a hot wash will build up the heat till the enezymes are nolonger working but your getting more a bleaching action this way you get better wash results and need less agitation. This is how cold fill machines are getting the higher ratings.
